Location scouting for Japanese TV
This November Kiwi Creations was privileged to help scout locations for Kyokugen, a famous Japanese TV show that screens on TBS Japan on New Years Eve.
A team from Kiwi Creations NZ traveled to central Otago and worked alongside Japanese production company C.P. International to provide location scouting services and access to the river locations where they wished to shoot. Location scouting took place around the greater Queenstown area including Roaring Meg, Citroen Rapids & Nevis Bluff on the Kawarau River.
The shoot will follow Japanese Olympic Bronze Medalist Takuya Haneda as he attempts to overcome the fear of trying to kayak a class 5 rapid on the might Kawarau River. As a canoe-slalom specialist he has never been away from the artificial courses. This provided a challenge to find a suitable location, with challenging enough whitewater while ensuring the safety of the crew wouldn't be compromised during the shoot.
The director from TBS Japan was wrapped with the locations suggested and will return in 4 weeks to begin shooting.
